Subrogation

Also known as: Transfer of Recovery Rights

The legal process wherein an insurer, after paying a covered claim, assumes the insured's legal rights to pursue compensation against a negligent third party responsible for the loss.

“Subrogation prevents double recovery by the insured and holds the at-fault third party financially accountable for damages caused.”
